Bunions

Bunions are bony protrusions that form at the base of the big toe, where the toe meets the foot. This condition, medically known as hallux valgus, causes the big toe to angle toward the second toe, leading to an abnormal bump on the side of the foot. Bunions can cause discomfort, pain, and changes in the foot's appearance and function.

Key Features of Bunions

  • Location of Bunion: The bunion appears as a noticeable bump on the side of the foot at the base of the big toe.

  • Toe Deformity: The big toe may bend toward the second toe, causing the joint at the base of the toe to stick out.

  • Pain and Discomfort: Pain is commonly experienced in the bunion area, especially when wearing tight or ill-fitting shoes. Inflammation and swelling may also occur.
